LinkedIn is one of the last bastions of the "monoproton" belief. It has practically died out on other social media platforms.
That's right—it really does say "monoprotonic faith." There are monotheistic religions that believe in one God. Drawing on this concept, there is the monoprotonic faith: our entire energy system and mobility rely solely on an element consisting of just a single proton—hydrogen.

Use and Non-Use of Hydrogen

Hydrogen Refueling Station as a Trailer

In 2004, the Opel Zafira Hydrogen Tour from Hammerfest to Lisbon took place. This required a truck to serve as a support vehicle and a hydrogen refueling station along the route.
What will the BMW iX5 hydrogen driver do the year after next if he wants to drive to an area without a hydrogen refueling station? There’s a trailer for that: 5.780 m long, 2.280 m wide, and weighing 3.500 kg—a portable hydrogen refueling station. So, just tow your own hydrogen refueling station behind you?
- No, that's not possible; the maximum towing capacity is only 2,700 kg.
- No, that's not possible; that's just a gas station without hydrogen.
But there’s another trailer that can be used to transport the hydrogen. That would already give us two support vehicles that require a 3,500 kg towing capacity. Furthermore, the BMW iX5 would need twice as many refueling stops because this refueling trailer can only handle 350 bar: half the pressure, half the fill, half the range. Then there’s the electricity: the refueling trailer requires 14 kW of power.
A trip to Moscow in the BMW iX5 Hydrogen? Compared to that, an expedition to Mount Everest—with all the Sherpas who have to haul oxygen tanks from camp to camp—is a piece of cake.

From 2022 to 2025, Louis Palmer proved with the Solar Butterfly that an electric car can tow a trailer equipped with solar panels and be self-sufficient for a trip around the world. While the Solar Butterfly trailer was a real camper, the gas station trailer has absolutely no living space.
I can therefore not regard this gas station trailer as a piece of technology, but only as a relic of the monoprotonic cult.

Cooking Without Electricity

Somewhere in Africa. The forest is being burned for cooking. The distances people have to travel to gather firewood are getting longer and longer. What can be done? For one thing, there’s the issue of improving the efficiency of wood burning. Next are these parabolic mirrors, which concentrate direct sunlight. Great—in the northern desert regions of Africa, there’s nothing more fun than cooking at noon when it’s the hottest. Near the equator, however, there’s usually a lack of direct sunlight that can be concentrated. Here are some typical solar yield charts from the region.

The weather determines long-term storage requirements. Much less gross yield compared to Cairo, partially compensated by higher 24×365 conversion efficiency.

The next step: solar panels, a battery, and an induction cooktop. This allows you to separate the timing of energy generation from that of energy consumption and make use of diffuse sunlight even when it's cloudy.
How much does it cost? A 48 V induction cooktop is available on Alibaba for as little as 48 €. Add to that a 48 V, 100 Ah battery for around 300 € and three large 2 kW PV modules for 400 €, and of course a refrigerator. A system with plenty of reserves for heavily cloudy days near the equator.
Enough reserves to also power an electric scooter. No waste of wood, no time-consuming search for firewood, less food spoilage thanks to the refrigerator, and greater mobility.
Here's the absolute craziest example yet of EU subsidy waste: a company is advertising a hydrogen stove. EU funding is cited as proof of the project's high quality.
Let's compare the efficiency:

It should also be noted that hydrogen flames are invisible in bright light, making them extremely dangerous. In very hot regions, a refrigerator is essential, so local power generation is absolutely necessary. Power a refrigerator with solar energy and wait for the next delivery of a hydrogen cylinder for cooking?
It's just pure madness. Madness driven by a single motive: to milk subsidies for projects that are good for nothing but the trash.
